Major Testing Contract Award for Bedford Bypass

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the materials testing contract for the Bedford Western Bypass Northern Section.

This £18.6million project funded by Bedford Borough Council is to construct a road that will provide the northern section of the Western Bypass linking the A6 Bromham Road/Deep Spinney Roundabout junction with the A6 Paula Radcliffe Way/A6 Clapham Road Roundabout junction and includes a bridge over the busy Midlands Main Rail Line.

We shall be providing high volume specification compliance testing to the main contractor for a wide range of construction materials including site won earthworks. These tests are scheduled to be carried out both on-site and in our central laboratory throughout the eighteen month construction period.

An Ingenious Solution to an Age Old Problem

A traditional issue with testing soils for compliance in large earth-moving projects has always been the need for test results to be available very quickly so that unsuitable materials are rapidly identified. Rapid on-site tests can be specified such as dry density determinations by nuclear methods and moisture condition value (MCV) testing, but these can leave the Engineer without key mechanical properties such as optimum moisture content and shear strength being conducted on a regular basis.

Determined to tackle this issue, Eurotest collaborated with our key clients to reduce sample handling and preparation times for key tests such as optimum moisture content and recompacted triaxial shear strengths by designing and building bespoke apparatus which reduces sample preparation times of stiff clays by some 80%. These time savings have then been passed onto our clients allowing them to save money by indentifying unsuitable materials more rapidly than before.

Please get in contact if you would like to know more or would like your project to benefit from a proactive approach to old problems.

Work Starts on North West Cambridge Development

We are pleased to announce our involvement in the North West Cambridge Development Project.  We are providing earthworks classification testing and compaction monitoring testing for high volume earth moving.  To minimise delay in assessment of compaction level data we are using nuclear density testing machines allowing instant pass or fail test results to be available – one of the many benefits of our state of the art testing equipment.  If you would like to know more please get in touch.

Eurotest Gains UKAS Accreditation for On-Site Plate Load Testing

Responding to client demand, we have successfully added plate loading tests and equivalent CBR determinations to our scope of UKAS accredited tests.  This follows on from our successful UKAS surveillance visit held this month.

The plate loading test is very useful for contractors, designers and piling companies to check potential settlement of crane pads under full load before the crane is sited.

Our equivalent CBR value testing will prove invaluable to contractors and consultants who wish to measure insitu CBR values but struggle to do so because of the presence of coarse grained subgrade.  Our test, compliant with the Specification for Highway Works Interim Advice Note (IAN) 73/06 and Design Guidance for Road Pavement Foundations HD25, can measure insitu CBR values for almost any material.
